2008 Trojan Coaching Staff
Coach Zumwalt  is the head coach and  in his third year at Jenks High School.  He and his
wife, Melissa, have two daughters; Karson, age 4 and Campbell, a newborn. Coach
Zumwalt currently teaches U.S. History.  He has coached for 10 years.  He was previously
assistant football coach, JV softball coach and baseball head coach in Bartlesville.  He
attended Bixby High School where he played basketball and baseball and attended
Southeastern Oklahoma State University where he continued his baseball career.  Coach
Zumwalt played in the NAIA World Series in 1993, 1994, and 1995.  He played in the
minor leagues for three years before beginning his coaching career.  He was honored as
Region 2 Baseball Coach of the Year in 2001 and 2002.  When not consumed with his
coaching and teaching duties, he enjoys family time, golf, and fishing.
Head Coach
Rusty Zumwalt
Jeff Owen  is an assistant varsity coach in this third year at Jenks High School. Coach
Owens and his wife, Ginger and two children; Cadon, age 12 and Kinzi, age 11. He
currently teaches U.S. History at Jenks Alternative Center.  Coach Owen is in his 17th
year of coaching, having previously coached football for 13 years and basketball for 7
years at Haskell schools and 1 year at Coweta.  Other coaching duties at Jenks include
softball.  Coach Owens attended Haskell High School where he played football, basketball
and baseball.  He attended Northeastern State University.  He was a member of the 1984
State Championship team; Haskell, member of coaching staff for 1996 State
Championship – Haskell and coached All State Baseball Game in 1996.  In his spare time
he coaches his soon and daughter in Little League, fishes and plays golf.

Kevin Johnston
Kevin Johnston, known as KJ, is an assistant varsity coach. He and his wife of 30 years  
have three children, ages 27, 25, and 24.  Coach Johnston has coached baseball for 26
years, football 24 years and fast pitch softball for 5 years.  He has taught for Jenks Public
Schools for 31 years, currently Middle School LTA-PE.  He attended Vinita High School
and participated in football, basketball, baseball and track.  He received his degree from
Northeastern State University in Tahlequah.  Coach Johnston coached the All-State
football game in 1995 and All-State basketball in 1997.  In his spare time he enjoys
fishing, hunting, boating and is a big fan of the “WWE”.

Darrell Beeler
Jimmy Freeman  is an assistant varsity coach.  He and his wife, Sandra, have two sons;
Wes, age 30 and Damon, age 19 who was also a Jenks High School baseball player.  He
has been in commercial construction for 28 years.  Coach Freeman attended Nathan Hale
High School where he played baseball and basketball.  He received All-State honors in
baseball, was a Topps High School All American and pitched for three years in the major
leagues with the Atlanta Braves.  Coach Freeman was the ORU pitching coach from
1996-1999.  In his spare time he enjoys hunting, fishing and golf.
Darrell Beeler  is an assistant varsity coach.  He and his wife, Susan, have three
children: Chase, age 21 and a student at Stanford; Dallas, age 18- a senior on the
Jenks baseball team; and Lacy, age 11.  Coach Beeler is a fire investigator for the
Tulsa Fire Department and has been with the Tulsa Fire Department for 25 years.  He
has coached baseball at Jenks for 4 years and football for 8 years.  He played baseball
for Jenks High School and went on to play for Southeastern Oklahoma. He has been
inducted into the USSA National Softball Hall of Fame and Oklahoma Softball Hall of
Fame. When time allows, Coach Beeler enjoys golf, fishing and hunting.
Bryan Raehl is currently a volunteer
intern with the varsity baseball team.  
He will graduate from ORU and is
regional coordinator for ORU
Missions Department.  He is engaged
to June Davis.  He attended Kellam
High School where he played
baseball.  Coach Raehl continued his
playing career at ORU.  He
previously coached at Edison
Preparatory School.
Cris Jackson is the JV Coach, he  
and his wife, Marisa, have two
children; Evan, age 18 and Hannah,
age 15.  He is currently in his 2nd
year at Jenks, teaching Oklahoma
History and Pre-AP American
Government at the Freshman
Academy.  He has coached for 18
years.  He attended high school in
Independence, Kansas where he
played football, baseball and
basketball.  He went on to play
baseball at Northeastern State
University in Tahlequah.  He likes to
canoe and fish and enjoys travel and
reading historical literature.
Stephen Finks-is the JV Coach and
his wife, Leigh-Anne, have three
children; Ashley, age 15, Paige, age
11 and Chelsea, age 15.  He has
coached Jenks baseball for 4 years
and is currently a special education
teacher for Jenks.  Coach Finks also
coaches for the football program and
prior to Jenks, coached at Webster.  
He played football and baseball at
Okmulgee High.  He attended NEO,
ECU, and NSU.  He enjoys fishing
and golf when time allows.
Brett Creekmore is the 8th Grade
White Team coach.  He is currently
a student and substitute teacher.  
In addition to coaching baseball,
he is involved with football.  He has
previously coached at Bixby and
Owasso.  Coach Creekmore
played football and baseball at
Bixby High School and went on to
play football for South West Texas
State.  He was named All District in
baseball in high school.  He likes to
golf in his spare time and can
sneeze without making any noise.

Coach Evans is a Freshman team
coach. He is married to his wife Kelly.
He has coached for Jenks three years
and has a lawn and landscape service.
 He is a Jenks High School graduate
and was a Trojan Baseball player.  He
attended Oklahoma State University.
He enjoys golf in his spare time.
Coach Mike Evans
Coach Rodney Cline
Coach Cline is the freshman team
coach.  His wife’s name is Lacey.  He
has coached baseball at Jenks for
seven years as well as freshman
basketball for three years.  He teaches
8th grade History at the Middle
School.  Before Coach Cline joined the
coaching staff at Jenks he was the
head baseball and basketball coach at
Butler, and assistant basketball coach
at Weatherford.  When Coach Cline is
not coaching he enjoys ping pong,
mountain biking, and first person
shooter gaming.

Coach Gunter is head of the 8th
grade baseball program at Jenks.  
Jeff and his wife Beth have three
sons, Jeff age 16, Ty age 13 and
Carter age 11. Coach Gunter
currently teaches elementary P.E. at
Kendall-Whittier (TPS). Jeff has been
a baseball instructor since 1989.
When he is not on the field at Jenks,
he is busy coaching and traveling to
tournaments with his 11 year old
Tulsa Giants and 13 year old
Oklahoma Titans competitive teams.  
Coach Gunter was an all-state
baseball player at Antlers High
School , and went on to become the
first four year starter at Southeastern
Oklahoma State University . Jeff was
Oklahoma Intercollegiate Player of
the Year and MVP 1989 as well as All
District Team for four years.  He and
his wife agree some of their best
memories are those at the ballpark.  
Jeff has an addiction to Mexican
food, diet Pepsi, dark chocolate and
teaching baseball.  He is open to any
invitation to fish or golf.
